Les Traversées Baroques this year point their compass south and, as is their wont, once again embark upon unbeaten paths with an extremely rare and completely original score. The Sicilian composer and Franciscan friar, Bonaventura Aliotti (ca.1640 - ca.1690) spent only some five years outside of his native island, living at times in Padua, at times in Venice, or in Ferrera. It is in this latter city that he created in 1677 what is clearly the most astounding of his 11 oratorios. Il Trionfo della morte per il peccato d’Adamooffers a highly personal and humane view of original sin, presented through the prism of the inner struggles of Adam and Eve and allegories that support or entice them. With unrelenting inspiration, an intense dramatic sense, this triumph over Death fully deserves rediscovery.

This program has received the support of Spedidam and Adami in support of live performance and concert broadcasting.
